BI102 Antique, Victorian Bohemian Garnet Link Bracelet:

BI102

This is a handmade Garnet link Bracelet from the Victorian period circa 1870. These hand cut genuine Bohemian garnet jewels are natural garnets with a beautiful, deep red color that are highly prized. The Bohemian garnet jewels are from what is now known as The Czech Republic and were known to have adorned the dresses of Russian tsarinas at the Vienna congress after the Napoleon fall in 1815. During the ninetieth century, the appearance of the Bohemian garnet jewelry has reached the distinctive designs in which garnets dominate the gemstones in popularity. In this period, these garnets were called the “Bohemian Ruby.”
This bracelet is set with eleven rectangles connected with square links allowing for movement and a comfortable fit. The setting holds 231 natural garnets round flat cut gemstones at 2 mm each.
The setting metal is called Vermeil. Definition of Vermeil, a French word which came into use in the English language, mostly in America, in the 19th century as an alternative for the usual term silver-gilt is a combination of sterling silver and gold, and other precious metals. It is commonly used as a component in jewelry. Victorian goldsmiths also called it Garnet Gold.
The bracelet size is 7 3/8 of an inch long, and 1/4 of an inch wide and has a safety chain. The gemstones and bracelet are in excellent condition and strong to wear.
