The handmade gold classic setting for this ring was made by a goldsmith of 9 karat Rose gold. The circa date is 1855, pre-Civil War period. The setting is set with four seed pearls that are 2.2 mm each. The focus of this pendant is the ROYAL amethyst gemstone that is 40 points of a carat each in weight. Amethyst is one of the Favorite Victorian gemstones because of the vibrant purple color.
Purple has long been considered a royal color, so it is not surprising that amethyst has been so much in demand during history. Fine amethysts are featured in the British Crown Jewels and were also a favorite of Catherine the Great and Egyptian royalty. Amethyst, transparent purple quartz is the most important quartz variety used in jewelry.
