E573 Gold, Amethyst Pendant with Name "Mary Patrick" on Back:

E573

The Pendants setting is handmade in the mid-1800s of 15 karat yellow gold using the lost wax method of jewelry making. The pendant has initially been a Brooch and made into a Pendant later. The Gemstones set into the pendant are hand cut natural Amethyst. Each gem is 4.5 carat each, the total carat weight would be 22.5 carats. The Center Amethyst gemstone is foil backed with gold and in a closed backed setting. The setting has the name hand engraved of "Mary Patrick." I do not know any other information on Mary except the pendant is from the Chadds Ford, PA; this is the area of the Battle of Brandywine.
Information on the Amethyst gemstone:
Amethyst: a Royal color - Purple has long been considered a royal color, so it is not surprising that amethyst has been so much in demand during history. Fine amethysts are featured in the British Crown Jewels and were also a favorite of Catherine the Great and Egyptian royalty. Amethyst, transparent purple quartz, is the most important quartz variety used in jewelry. Leonardo Da Vinci wrote that amethyst was able to dissipate evil thoughts and quicken the intelligence.
The pendant is 1 1/3 tall and 1 1/2 wide, and it comes with a 14 karat gold chain. The pendant and Amethyst are in excellent condition.
