The pendant of the Koi Fish was popular with the Victorian. One reason is the fascination with nature and traditions from other lands. These articulated fish are handmade, and the sections are cleverly assembled. This fish is Mid-19th Century and a beautiful pendant to wear. The handmade gold work scales are hand textured and the Koi Fish eyes are set with Persian Turquoise gemstones, two stones at 2.5 mm each.

The earliest ancient legend of the koi fish dates 533 B.C. The legend says Chinese philosopher Confucius was born a son in 533 B.C; King Shoko of Ro presented him with a black carp, as a gift. According to legend all modern day koi and their bright colors are from the black carp given to Confucius by the king. In general, the koi are believed to provide you with good fortune, success, prosperity, longevity, courage, ambition and perseverance.
The size of the pendant is 2 1/2 inches long by 7/8 inches wide. Excellent condition and comes with a new 16-inch chain.
