The Amethyst is Crown Set which is a quality setting in the Victorian time period. The gold is both matte gold and polished gold in an Etruscan design style
Amethyst is one of the Victorian favorite gemstones because of the rich purple color.
Purple has long been considered a royal color so it is not surprising that amethyst has been so much in demand during history. Fine amethysts are featured in the British Crown Jewels and were also a favorite of Catherine the Great and Egyptian royalty. Amethyst, transparent purple quartz is the most important quartz variety used in jewelry.
The meaning of the gems set in this pendant as believed in the Victorian Language of Gems; Amethyst meant “Peace of Mind and Pearls were for “Modest Loveliness” a sweet thoughtful gift also for today as a beautiful antique item of jewelry.
The size of the pendant and bale is 2 inches tall and 3/4 of an inch wide. The overall design of the pendant is really nice and would be noticed today as a lovely period item of quality.
