This ring is handmade of 15 karat yellow gold by a goldsmith, the rings band has a 14kt stamp when it was resized before but acid tested a strong 15 karat gold. The ring is from Philadelphia. The center gemstone is a natural Emerald of 40 points of a carat in weight. Around the Emerald Gemstone is set eight Natural ocean Seed Pearls; one on each side and three Seed Pearl then on the top and the under Emerald.
Emerald Stone history: The ancients appear to have obtained emeralds from Upper Egypt, where it is said to have been worked as early as 2000 BC, during the life of Pharaoh Sesostris III. Greek miners were working the mines in the time of Alexander the Great, and later the mines yielded their gems to Cleopatra. Cleopatra was an avid emerald collector. Remains of "Cleopatra's Mines" were discovered about 1817, they are situated on the Red Sea coast.
South America's rich bounty of emeralds was discovered by 16th Century Spanish explorers, who found large emeralds in the possession of the Aztecs and Incas.
The Moguls of India, including Shah Jahan, the builder of the Taj Mahal, loved emeralds so much they inscribed them with sacred text and wore them as talismans. Pearl is said to help one see them and help improve self-worth. The pearl is an emblem of modesty, chastity and purity, the pearl symbolizes love, success, and happiness.
Folklore, Legend of the Pearl:
Natural Pearls are considered to offer the power of love, money, protection, and luck. Pearls are thought to give wisdom through experience, to quicken the laws of karma and to cement engagements and love relationships. They are thought to keep children safe.
In the Language of Gems the Pearl meant “Modest Loveliness” and an Emerald Gemstone meant “Success in Love”. This is a quality romantic original ring in excellent condition and this is lovely on the finger when worn. The ring size is 6 but could be resized larger or smaller if needed. The front is ½ inch tall buy ½ inch across. The ring has an insured value of $2000.00 as of November 2013.
