Victorian 1870 Sapphire and Seed Pearl Pendant Set in Gold

One of a kind Sapphire handmade Pendant

This handmade pendant was designed and handmade by an American goldsmith in the 1870’s. The pendants gold work is handmade of 9 karat yellow gold with great talent and fine detail. It also is set with a wonderful natural sapphire that is 16 points of a carat of gemstone. The stone is a Corn Flower Blue in color. This color of sapphires was desired in the 19th Century and only mined at that time in Madagascar. Also set are 20 natural seed pearls from the Mediterranean Sea. Set in the pendant are two half pearls and one Baroque dangling Pearl.

The theme is a fan shape. The necklace has a new 14 karat gold chain. This necklace was originally held with a small woven cord or ribbon but these fabric cords or ribbons usually do not last 140 years. This is very well made and in wonderful condition. It is fine to wear. The size is 2 inches long including bale and 1 inch wide. This graceful pendant is a real Civil War Era treasure purchased from a long time collector of Victorian jewelry.
