An Original Georgian CLADDAGH 18 karat Gold Wedding Ring

Claddagh Wedding Ring georgian

Very rare find, indeed and hallmarked with an early 1800’s date. It is hand made by a goldsmith in Dublin, Ireland using 18 karat yellow gold. Very nice detail, and with the hallmarks of the Crowned Heart representing Dublin from 1730 on and the Hibernia mark also of Dublin only to show the duty money was paid to the government. And the third mark is the letter W to show this item was made in the year of 1817. The karat mark of 18 Ct is worn but most of it can be seen. The Deputy Assay Master, William M. Clarke has his initials on the inside band of the ring he was the Assay Master from 1809 to 1833 in Ireland. It is great to have any hallmarks on an item of jewelry, but wonderful to have all these to match the Dublin records. 1817 is in the Georgian time period and this also makes it a treasure because of the early date. The ring is strong and fine to wear. Excellent condition with only light scratching to the gold which can be easily polished but I think the wear is better left on and it does not detract from the ring. It is size 10 ½ now and can be resized carefully in the areas without the hallmarks.
